Content Creation

For more than two decades, my creative life has existed in two very different worlds. By day, I've worked within the precision, pace and standards of broadcast television. Outside of that, I've had the privilege of contributing to mightycarmods since its earliest days, creating graphics, animation and visual content that embraces the freedom, humour and unpredictability of online entertainment. I've also collaborated with a range of other digital creators on projects where the brief is often simple: make it like mightycarmods - so obviously we’ve set the standard for graphics since the dawn of youtube.

No corporate templates, no brand guidelines PDF, no agency egocentric chain of command on subjective matters of font placement and design - get an idea, make it happen, send it out - sometimes the rougher the better, and the beauty (or sometimes the horror) of the wild frontier of the internet is that you get almost instantaneous feedback - mostly the audience loves it, sometimes they don’t, but then you can fire off the next attempt.

The freedom of expression and lack of corporate oversight has meant that designing in this space provided such a great counter balance to broadcast television, which in turn enabled me to survive in that work place for as long as i did - or shall continue on doing. As for now, stay tuned for more off-beat craziness - and buy a car seat cover or some thongs from the mightycarmods shop - actually, get one of the Unicorn Circuit 38 shirts, my personal favourite (and yes, I designed them also).

CONTENT CREATION REEL 2026

There are mini-dv tapes stacked on the shelves behind me - so many music videos, sports projects, and then of course our lunch time “Jam Sessions” where we had a camera, we had recording facilities - let’s make… well anything! We made a bunch of skits, we broke a powerball world record and eventually we took someone’s car and changed it in their lunch break, and filmed that as well… the above reel is what came afterwards over the next 17+ years - again, there’s just so much, to collect it all if almost impossible… and remember, we recorded Electric Space Wizard in one take, ad-libbed, in our lunch break… and it will live rent-free in your head forever!

Past Projects

Explore a curated collection of our past work, where imagination meets strategy, or leaves strategy somewhere in a drive way - no corporate rules, no strict agency approvals, instant uploads - all fresh, all crazy, the more unhinged the better - but still quality.

ELECTRIC SPACE WIZARD
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
One lunch time, many years ago, I wandered down to the recording studio and ad-libbed a song over a backing track in one take. Several months later, we needed Marty to go to a weird place from inhaling too many bog fumes and the electric space wizard was born. Everything was shot in true mighty car mods style… in Marty’s then garage - in front of a green sheet with whatever makeshift costumes we could find.

SEASON 09 INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
For this one - why not try red - and thankfully we got a nice bunch of new high-res images of the guys doing tool related tomfoolery. We got some nice close ups of the tool shed in this also, some nice macro shots of engines and tools. Blair does different music each time and it always adds a lot.

SEASON 14 INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Chopped fingers - check… after working on the main event branding at FOX, I took a few moves out of that book and had some strong red on black monotone 3D camera pull through action happening - and we’d just come from some ink reveal parchment image reveals from one of the movie intros, so i threw that in there also.

SEASON 08 INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Having produced every intro for Mighty Car Mods since it’s inception, it’s always a reinvention and a battle between time and availability to come up with a new one - I’ll usually get a handful of series footage then have to try and wrangle the guys into doing whatever we can and smashing something out from there.

SEASON 11 INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
By this stage, the chopped fingers were now a thing, so why not put them front and centre - I went with a bit of a contrast of monotone colour combos and then some high gloss full colour set-ups - we’d also just made the WD-40 can, so had a nice series of images from that to use.

SEASON 13 INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Chopped fingers are now the hero - and we started to really lean into the black and white identity - we always had the white logo on black as the basis of a lot of the merchandise, but i leant into it quite hard on this intro, with a healthy dose of some purple neon. Classic use of let’s spell out the show name before resolvingto… well, the complete word.

CURRENT INTRO GFX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Chopped in 3D - amazing - Strictly tricolour on this one - and a new brief, that we have to have the intro be about 10secs total due to audiences dropping attention spans - they just have no patience to sit through our glorious 20-30sec intros of yesteryear. Crammed as much imagery into each frame on this one as I could.

TURBOS & TEMPLES III
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
As christmas comes around each year, that means it’s time for a Mighty Car Mods feature length episode! - thankfully we get to keep these ones a bit longer to fit in all the credits. I also went for a touch of True Detective because everyone was contractually obligated at that time as a designer to do so.

THE UNICORN CIRCUIT
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
As the Unicorn Circuit is a very unique show (just ticking over 200 episodes!) - it requires a very unique graphics package - the brief as always - keep the GFX as rough as possible! I think pretty much every bit of random footage we’ve ever recorded over the last 30 years has filtered it’s way into all the titles, so there’s an abundance of easter eggs in there. Oh - and add a chrome effect to everything!

SEA TO THE CITY
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Another intro for a big end of year special - we wanted to feature the more unusual vehicles in this one so came up with some geometry that could reveal footage of the cars spread out with watery elements! and a striking 3 colour tone palette.

TURBOS & TUV
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
As the guys head to Germany, we wanted to show off the scenery a bit more in this one, so used a series of mirrored shots to create a sense of symmetry that then resolves with ruthless efficiency into the German inspired title.

MCM INTRO 2013
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
This one is something I like to call a sequence of happy accidents, basically throwing in all my elements as they fall on a time line, and mixing them all up… well maybe not that random, but it has a crazy hectic feel.

KEI TO THE MOUNTAIN
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
The feature length episode that launched the worlds greatest 4×4 channel - so we went for a nice gritty earthy look to get the whole off road feel, lots of nice pencil sketch set ups and off shoot pencil lines with lots of dirty textures.

JAZZ IN SPACE
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
Why not launch a Honda Jazz into space? All you need is a green sheet, an old video game joy stick and a back catalogue of car photos - to call this spontaneous is an understatement…

KEI TO THE CITY II
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
The guys head to Japan - not too much to say here other than lets use some samurai sword slashes and reveal some crazy cars in a slashy slash style.

CHASING MIDNIGHT
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
The end of year special saw the guys heading to malaysia for a 24 hour race - I went for some nice halftone riso looks and an orange and teal colour space with a hero cat.

PEUGEOT SKRILLEX
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
The return of the Electric Space Wizard going all french and laser-y with real fire, lasers and a hybrid unicorn

V-TECH DREAM
Graphics + Production + Talent

Work
To celebrate the triumph that was the S2000, Moog was overwhelmed with V-Tech Yo! This had to be a fever dream, as totally weird as I could get so all the set-ups are as wacky as I could think up.
